“Put your trust in God and keep your powder dry.” A quote that was first seen at the poem “Oliver’s advice” by William Blacker in 1834 and was used by Oliver Cromwell (English military and political leader) during his campaign in Ireland (1649 – 1653). The general meaning of the phrase was “Trust in God, be prepared and keep your supplies for the right moment” or “Trust in God and wait for the right moment to take your decision”. The phrase was literally referring to the powder that the soldiers had to keep dry in order to be ready to fight.
The quote was used a lot in the US during WWII. 

 

 

WWII – A few general information

WWII broke out during 1939 (ended on 1945), after the obstacles WWI had brought (1914-1918).

Everything started when Adolf Hitler and his Nazi Party signed strategic treaties with Italy and Japan as Hitler ambitious plan, was to dominate the world. His invasion of Poland in September 1939 made Great Britain and France to declare war against Germany. That was the beginning of World War Two. ”Obsessed with the idea of the superiority of the “pure” German race, which he called “Aryan,” Hitler believed that war was the only way to gain the necessary “Lebensraum,” or living space, for that race to expand.” History.com
